An exclusive holiday rental development in Sweden where space is at a premium is benefiting from the installation of strong and light Posi-joists from MiTek.
Located on the island of Sandhamn in the beautiful Swedish archipelago and two hours from Stockholm, the 11 properties have been designed and built to blend perfectly with the local environment, reflecting existing colours and architecture.
The 11 properties, part of an exclusive 24-unit harbourside development by Seaclub, aim to create a unique harmony between the new and the old, says renowned architect Thomas Sandell. They are designed to blend into the environment at Sandhamn with inspiration from the village, the pine forest and the sound of the sea.
With space at a premium and a design where every millimetre counted, the builder – Svenska Husgruppen – needed to ensure all its specifications and materials were a perfect fit both physically and aesthetically.
“It was undoubtedly a challenge,” said Peter Lysén Svenska Husgruppen.
“It was very important for us to get it right and for it to look right, and because it’s so well designed by the architect it needed to look a certain way. Everything right down to the smallest screw had to be thought through.
“That’s why we chose Posi-Joist – it allowed us to get the utilities and sprinkler systems all hidden within the flooring joists.”
Swedish company Granholmen träteknik manufactured the Posi-Joists at their facility just north of Piteå ensuring that the steel units were delivered to the tiny island cut to size and ready for easy installation.
The strong yet light Posi-Joists proved to be the perfect solution for the holiday apartments, which went on the market at the end of February this year.
